I was an RAFP Corporal at Scampton in the early 70’s.

Our main duty was guarding weapons and the V Force aircraft of 617 and 27 Squadron either on dispersal or QRA this included looking after XH 558 at night we did ‘Black checks’ going into the squadron hangers to ensure all was secure. It gave me a chance to sneak into the open cockpits for a look.

I never thought that I would one day be a member of a club that has been keeping the LAST Vulcan flying it feels like a piece of my life is entering the history books, I hope the girl has a great retirement. Saw her at East Midlands along with thousands of others WOW.

Thanks to Vulcan to the Sky for the new memories and excellent photo’s.
