I joined the RAF on the 7th January 1967. My first posting was to RAF Scampton I was a chef in the officers mess.

It was great to hear the Vulcans take off and to see them. I did a few deployments with 617 to RAE Bedford on exercise.

Sleeping in Caravans with bunk beds, we had to have the guards keep the fires going in the kitchen overnight, they would come and wake us up for early shift with a mug of tea or coffee.

I did 22 yrs. came out in 1989, I live in Bedford and going up to what was RAE Bedford dispersal to see the building have fallen down is a shame they should have been preserved as part of the cold war history.

I guess though there are to many places that should be preserved.
