My first sight of an airborne Vulcan was on my honeymoon in North Wales in 1968 standing on Rhosneigr station when a Vulcan took off from Valley, and the whole station shook.

Then, my 7-year old grandson, Ollie Brake, had a fundraiser for the Vulcan on my driveway selling his books and toys and raising a tidy sum for her.

But my lasting memory will be of her flying solo yesterday at RIAT. She’s definitely female, temperamental, high maintenance but truly beautiful.
