I grew up in a village called Foston in Lincolnshire. The village lies close to Waddington where Vulcan’s were based.

I was always fascinated by the overflying Vulcans but was too young to understand their significance.

During the Falklands conflict their activity levels were dramatically increased but post-conflict they effectively vanished and we missed seeing them.

The day XH558 flew again I was working in Northamptonshire and hadn’t realised it was the first flight day. I recognised the sound of a Vulcan without looking.
