I was in the RAF (National Service) from 1960 to 196. An armourer at RAF Leconfield.

It was our turn to be on ‘Quick reaction Alert’ and the Vulcans were at the end of the runway plugged in ready to go.

It was a dark, wet, windy night and about 02.00 hrs. Some cows had got onto the airfield. It was not much fun chasing them down the runway hoping not to hear the word ‘scramble’. Happy days.
