In 2005, by arrangement, Denis Parker took me into the hangar at Bruntingthorpe, where CH558 was up on jacks and stripped down with many parts sent back to the original makers to be refurbished. Denis took into the cockpit, minus all its instruments.

Having been in many aircraft whilst in the RAF during the 39-45 war, I was surprised how cramped it is in the cockpit. Denis then took me into the bomb bay, which is just the reverse – enormous. (Thanks Denis).

A year or two later I was besotted enough to drive 300 miles there and back to go from Bolton to Bruntingthorpe just to see the Vulcan towed out of the hangar for the first time after restoration and to be able to walk round under it. Yes, fond memories.
