I did 2 years national service in the RAF from 1957 to 1959.

In 1958 I was a ground to air wireless operator in the control tower of RAF Nicosia, Cyprus. There was often a lot of ‘Noise’ or ‘Static’ on the air making understanding signals quite difficult. (I always thought it was the Russians generating interference) but the V Bombers, especially the Vulcan, always came through loud and clear.

A testament and a tribute to the quality of the wireless sets in the aircraft and also the air signallers operating them.
