The only time I saw a Vulcan fly was in the early 1960’s on a Saturday morning.

After night duty in Oxford, I was travelling home along the Banbury _Warwick road, passed Gaydon Airfield : now a Vehicle Proving Ground. I stopped for about 30 minutes and watched this amazing plane. It was landing, then taking off, circling round and then landing again. It repeated this manoeuvre continuously. I thought it was a pilot practising these procedures, but perhaps the plane was being tested to see how it behaved.

An unforgettable experience as at the time I had never flown in a plane.
