South west of Harrogate in the 60s, as a boy living on the outskirts, I used to watch single Vulcans fly past at approx. 1,000′ – 1,500′ almost every day, or several times a day, always on exactly the same route, heading South East approx. on their return to finningley, I presumed, carrying a ‘Blue Steel.’

My father would take me to the Finningley air displays every year and the highlight was always the scramble of 3 Vulcans from ‘readiness’ at the end of the runway – the ‘gut trembling’ noise and smoke was so thrilling to me.
