I was a teenage ATC cadet in the mid 70’s at a week-long summer camp at Odiham.

On one day we were due to fly out to Salisbury Plain to watch army manoeuvres but there was not enough space for all, so a handful of us got left behind. Our disappointment was short-lived. We spent the morning on the rifle range and the afternoon on a Wessex.

At dusk we dropped in to Waddington to refuel and spent half an hour watching Vulcans touch and go in the fading light before the flight home. How could you ever forget that?
