The weather had been threatening all day with humid air and black clouds. Seeing the ‘Blackbird’ doing her stuff under a perfectly defined roll- cloud was impressive, but much more was to follow.
With a thunder storm building to the south XH588 rose into the sky and began her display. Before long the famous howl was competing with distant thunder and my all time favourite memory of scores of her displays was the closing climb out, against a by now black backdrop, with fork lightning decorating the sky and the howl echoing around the airfield.
Wonderful stuff, never to be seen again, bye-bye old girl, I will miss you.
