The Cold War years were a very tense time in the period after the war.

I joined the Royal Air Force in 1962 and trained as a RAF Policeman later qualifying as a Dog Handler. Most of my service was spent on security with the V Bomber Force on a number of units around the world culminating in a posting to RAF Waddington. I have many happy memories of that time but the one that stands out for me is sheltering under the delta wing of XH558 at 0200hrs on a night shift. My dog Major and me keeping out of the rain and snow.

I have every reason to be grateful to that magnificent lady. The best umbrella I ever had.
