The Vulcan to the Sky Trust (VTST) charity is seeking to appoint an environmental expert, as a new Trustee, to its board.
The charity was responsible for returning the iconic aircraft, Vulcan XH558, to flight, as well as operating her at air displays and public events over eight years in front of more than 20 million people and, since her final flight at Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) on October 28 2015, it has been responsible for her safekeeping.
VTST has two guiding principles: to honour those who served in the past and to inspire future generations to make meaningful change in the world.
John Sharman, chair of VTST said: “We are now entering a new phase in the life of this charity. Our plans to build a hangar to house XH558 at Doncaster Sheffield Airport are developing and we are looking to grow for people with expertise in the environment and/ or green technology to join our board and help to us to develop an inspiring educational place to visit for the future generations.
“At this stage in our development we are looking to further increase our skills base, experience and representativeness by recruiting to our board.
“Our existing board is made up of trustees drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds united by a love of the Vulcan and the importance this iconic aircraft has played in our history. We now need to move to be more forward-looking with an increased focus on the impact of aviation on climate change, alternative fuels such as hydrogen and bio fuels and the technical solutions being devised to mitigate its impact.
“We invite applications from anyone over 18 who feels that they have the skills and expertise to help guide the Trust as it takes its vision forward.”
Charity Trustees are not remunerated but may claim expenses. New Trustees will receive a comprehensive induction and may expect the role to take a few hours per month excluding travel.
