We are pleased to say that the Outpost, better know as Central Stores Stratford upon Avon, have been quite busy over the past couple of months. What with Open Days, Cadet Work Days and Film Presentations it’s a wonder we had time for other activitie,s but since most of the above were weekends we thankfully did manage to prepare a range of new items for release early next year from a variety of items within the stores. So keep an eye open for these items in emails as they are sure to sell fast and as always they will be limited in number.
So what else have we been up to:
Open Days
We have held two open days one in 4 November and the second on 2 December. We changed the format a little this time with the tables being set out in the “Cow Shed” giving a bit more space to set out the wares. It also gave our supporters an opportunity to view the AVON Cutaway jet engine that we acquired a month or two ago. Plenty of Aviation Parts were available together with a wide selection of pre-loved books in mint condition, die-cast models, wall art.
Despite what could be described as bracing weather conditions, it was – 3 deg C
at one event and not exactly dry at the other we had an excellent turnout on both days and of course on the December edition Mince Pies were available.
We had regulars and we had newcomers which was great to see. These events offer a great chance to meet and greet, pass on the latest news and even make contacts than can help us out. Two recent visitors, working for two different F1 Grand Prix teams for example, soon I hope to tell you what the material composition of our Jet compressor blades are to compare with those of current blades
There is little doubt that these events are popular and whilst we haven’t fixed dates for 2024 we hope to be in a position to run them more regularly.
That said, as we are open a number of days during the week, we do welcome visitors at any time between 10.00 and 15.00 hrs but ask that it be by prior appointment just in case we are out delivery or collecting. Just give us a call.
Film Matinee
On the 18 November we held a Matinee Presentation of the film Attack on Sorpe Dam. Again the weather was not that kind to us but with a suitably full house we were able to show the Hi-Res version of the “Remember the Many” tribute to the pilots of WWII Bomber Pilots, including Rusty Waughman who was due to attend as special guest but unfortunately due to weather conditions had to forego. Rusty appeared in the tribute and also had had input into the main feature “Attack on Sorpe Dam”. Unfortunately, Andrew Panton, the film’s Director was also confined to base but the question and answer session was still held with fortunately no awkward questions. It has to be said that “Remember the Many” did produce a little grit in some eyes and was received with due reverence.
The Feature film is due to be shown at Retford, organised by the Doncaster Team, on the 10 February 2024. Click here to read more and book now
