2024 is the 50th Anniversary of the creation of the AVRO Vulcan B2 MRR fleet. From 1974 to 1982 nine AVRO Vulcan B Mk2s were converted for Maritime Radar Reconnaissance (MRR). Taking over from the AVRO Shackleton the AVRO Vulcan MRR variants flew patrols around the coast of the UK using the radar to monitor shipping, also flying low level for visual identification and inspection. As a secondary role the aircraft carried out air sampling following nuclear tests by the USSR and the USA and used air sampling pods mounted beneath each wing to collect potential radioactive samples for analysis.
The MRR variants served with 27 Squadron (RAF Scampton) until the Nimrod took over the duties in 1982.
The model is an art deco representation of AVRO Vulcan XH558 (MRR) during period 1974 – 1981.
The reproduction Vulcan XH558 Aircraft Identification Plate displays the unique details:
The original aircraft ID plate is still fitted to XH558 today, mounted on the rear wall of the nose-wheel bay.
Plate size: 75 x 50 x 2 mm
