Update from Vulcan to the Sky Trust – January 2024

Update from Vulcan to the Sky Trust – January 2024

Negotiations on the future of Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) are continuing between the City of Doncaster Council (CDC) and Peel L&P, as these conversations are ongoing, we are hopeful that a resolution will be reached that sees DSA reopen to the public and XH558 remain as a key attraction at DSA.

As you can imagine the discussions that are taking place are complex and highly confidential, but we are pleased to hear updates from Mayor Ros Jones regarding the latest developments and the continued hope that progress is being made.

Remaining in Doncaster for the longer term would have the obvious benefit of keeping XH558 intact. As we are not legally allowed to fly XH558 a move to another location would mean that we would have to sympathetically dismantle XH558, move her by road, and rebuild her at her new home.

We will continue to liaise with Peel L&P, CDC and hopefully at some point a new operator at DSA regarding our longer-term location, in the meantime we are pleased to be planning the dates for visits to XH558 in 2024 and will be liaising with the landowner to get these in place.

Like all Vulcan supporters, everyone at Vulcan to the Sky Trust has huge affection for ‘558. Rest-assured, the care and protection of Vulcan XH558 remains at the forefront of our decision making. Our aim and ambition is to be able to show her off to her fans, old and new, for many years to come. We want this iconic aircraft to be a catalyst to inspire young people into careers in engineering and other STEM-related roles.

As the situation at DSA (ex RAF Finningley) develops, we will continue to keep you updated with the news and what that means for Vulcan XH558.
