Attack on Sorpe Dam – Retford Screening

Attack on Sorpe Dam – Retford Screening

Saturday 10th February saw a sold-out theatre for a showing of The Attack on the Sorpe Dam (The Johnny Johnson story).

150 people were packed in for this very popular showing of a film that will never go on general release or to DVD.

We were hosted by the Retford Little Theatre who made us and our supporters very welcome.

Our supporters mingled whilst awaiting the start of the event

The evening started around 6.30pm with a showing of a short film Remembering the Many bomber crew from WW2. A very moving short film.

Then the main event, eagerly awaited by all in the theatre, a different telling of the Dambusters Story.

The film got a rousing round of applause at the end where the theatre emptied to the sound of the 3 sisters flying over Lincoln Cathedral for the mid event break.

The post interval session started with a presentation from our own Crew Chief Taff Stone about the work he is doing on Just Jane NX611 at East Kirkby as part of her return to flight project putting a second Lancaster into the skies of the UK.

During his presentation Taff took questions from the audience about some of the technical difficulties he has come across during his work so far on the aircraft.

Following Taff to the stage was Squadron Leader (ret) Mal Stainforth who did a gripping talk about the Vulcan and the Cold War very fitting when considering what is happening around the world with Russia at the moment.0eb91400 efc6 4d5b b4be e164ff2fbafc

Finally to bring the evening to a close Wing Commander (Ret) Adrian Sumner came to the stage with his presentation on The Warmer Side of the Cold War, with tales of his exploits around the world flying the Vulcan.

At the close of the evening many people asked if we were planning another showing of this event. Watch this space for details, yes we will later in the year.

VTTS would like to thank The Retford Little Theatre for all their support and help to plan and put on this event https://www.rlt.org.uk/
